Be Better
Be Better; is an organization that seeks to serve athletes and their families through consultations, education, and navigation support. Be Better; focuses on athletes because of the unique challenges they face in balancing the demands of their sport with the demands of life.
Be Better; was founded by Jill and Steve Miskelley, along with Dr. Michael Brashears in 2021. Jill and Steve wanted to do something to honor their son Ian, an accomplished swimmer for the University of Michigan. Ian lost his battle with mental illness at the age of 19, after years of struggling to find the care and support he needed in the mainstream mental health system.
Dr. Brashears is an expert in family centered care, serving as the Executive Director of Ottawa County Community Mental Health in addition to his duties as Director of Mental Health Services at Be Better; . He is also a suicide loss survivor, having lost his loving wife, Aimee, to her battle with mental illness 15 years ago.
Through their unique approach, Be Better; is able to help athletes and their families understand their issues and get the care they need when they need it.
